During this tumultuous time in which we now live, I find myself drawing strength from the example of John Knox (1514-1572). Who was he? He was best known as a fiery Scottish preacher who won his nation for the gospel. One biographer states, “In the hearts of Scotsmen…he became the Moses of the Scots; more indeed, for he was their Amos and their Isaiah too…” Mary, Queen of Scots, said of him, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than the army of ten thousand men!” But despite the many difficulties of advancing the gospel in Scotland, John Knox took comfort from this foundational truth: “A man with God on his side is always in the majority.” And this is a statement you can base your life on!
